I’m sure you may have heard about how there are “secrets” to being successful in network marketing and that your sponsor or upline is lying to you about what it takes to become success? That’s all just horse hockey! Oh! And by the way, your sponsor has a vested interest in your personal success so he is not going to be lying to you about what it takes. More on this later. The biggest secret about success in this business and industry is that there isn’t any secret. Surprised? I thought you might be, but it is very true.

- Key #1: You! That’s right, you. Here’s what I mean about “you.” The success or failure you experience in network marketing and MLM is totally reliant upon you, your beliefs, your attitude, and the direct actions you take toward success. To attain the benefits of your efforts and what you want to be in this business, you must have a very strong “why”. The stronger the why the greater chance of success. I determined my “why” by completing a vision statement of how I want my life to be as a result of my efforts. What my life will look like, smell like, be like, experience and advantages I will have that I don’t have now. In another article I will discuss in detail the successful completion of a vision statement.

There are many areas of your life you will need to evaluate to determine what type of product or service you wish to represent and market. You must keep yourself aligned with your wants and vision therefore, the choice of company is paramount along with the other keys. See yourself as a success with this company and product. If you can’t see it then it won’t happen. Keep searching. You have to be the driving force behind your success. Yes, there are many other elements that come into play but “you” are the ultimate key to your own success.

- Key #2: Product or service. What products or services get you excited or do you already have a firm foundation of experience and knowledge? This may or may not take some time on your part to crystallize. It is as an important key as any of the others and must be addressed from a business point of view. Can you make a profit with this product or service? Is there a ready made market? Is there exclusivity in the product or service not found in the general consumer market? Exclusivity is nice but is also short-lived in this consumer market.

Network Marketing has hundreds of quality products and services available to you including travel, nutritional, health, long distance, VIOP, communication, energy, and many others. Don’t make the mistake of following the herd but then again, don’t be too unique that no one has ever heard of it either. Choosing a product or service to represent in your home based business is as personal as the company you select to partner with that has your offering.

- Key #3: Selecting the company that represents and markets your chosen product or service. You can not discount that, oh so important, “gut feeling” when you complete important tasks like research, due diligence, investigation, interviews with existing reps, and interviews with potential sponsors.” To keep it simple, I will list for you the requirements that I used to pick my current company and this may shed some light on what you need to look for in your company.

*Solid company of five years or older

*A fun, professional, and enthusiastic “culture”

*Competent corporate staff with business management and NWM/MLM experience on the front lines.

*Exclusive product by quality unmatched in the marketplace

*Products supported by real life studies for efficacy and quality

*A robust comp plan that is quick to see results and easy to understand

*Ability to retail products at a reasonable price for “right now” money

*A quality marketing plan and support tools in place

*Solid and increasing annual sales and distributor growth

*Qualified Upline with proven success and willingness to share information

*A plan for a successful system to plug into and NOT reinvent the wheel

*Both company and product recognized in the community for quality

*Easy online signups and prospect back office tracking

*No voicemail, phone trees, but “real people” answering the phones

*Company MUST be distributor oriented with income based on volume and not on the backs of distributors in the form of fees etc.

- Key #4: Selecting a sponsor may or may not have a direct effect on your success but, it may definitely affect your failure without the correct choice. Many people in the industry will tell you that your sponsor will not dictate your success or failure in the business and industry. This may be true however; I believe having all of the proper support and guidance is to your best advantage. Once you’ve selected a company then begins the process of determining who is the best fit to have as your sponsor? Is this person currently working the business? Are they successful to the point you would like to be someday? Can you relate to this person and like them? You don’t want to have to reinvent the wheel but learn from their experiences in the are they forthcoming with information, knowledge, experiences?

A final and very important question regarding the selection of a qualified sponsor, would you want to take a 30 day cruise with this person? Think about that for a moment and the answer will be very revealing.

- Key #5: You want to look at the fact is there a viable and robust training/marketing system already functioning and success and is there a viable and robust team of like minded people for support and interation? All of this lends itself to a further advantage toward success provided the previous keys have been taken seriously and good decisions made. You don’t want to be left out to stand on your own but want a group of like minded people to interact and learn from their experiences. You want to feel part of a successful team, almost like a family.

As for the training/marketing system, do you want to have to create that all by yourself or would you rather have it up and running and productive from day one. Look for video and audio training, sizzle lines, 800#s, contact management back office, auto responders, existing sizzle messages, emails, and auto responder messages. All of this will save you a great deal of time, shorten the learning curve, allow you to focus on building your business, and increasing your ROI (Return On Investment).

OK then! By accomplishing the above keys you have started out on a strong path to becoming successful in your own home based business in network marketing and MLM. I know this looks like a great deal of effort but starting a business is not a flippant decision and needs to be researched in many areas to give you the best chance of success. Unfortunately the closest most of will ever get to driving a Ferrari will be to buy an item in the merchandise range. These symbols of style and grace are for many a dream car but many owners find themselves wishing they had not bought the car in the first place. But if mixing the pills with grain, applesauce or molasses does not do the job, one might revert to the age-old syringe. Truly reminiscent of dealing with an unruly preschooler, pumping the fluid medicine into the horse’s mouth and holding it shut until the medicine is swallowed is not a comfortable task. It requires strength and patience as the horse will not make it easy.

An alternative to the syringe is something more friendly looking a plastic mustard dispenser. It won’t guarantee that all of the liquid medication would stay inside that equine mouth but it would get it all in, after all a condiment bottle is more appealing rather than threatening.

Some horse owners also testify that pills dissolved in strawberry Kool-Aid juice or vanilla yogurt make irresistible concoctions. It appears that just like us, these medicine-repellent creatures have certain indulgences. Once we discover what makes them forget their repulsion to medicine, it’s an easy ride from there.

It is not only the horse’s health that should be considered when giving it medication. One should be careful in handling drugs that may have adverse effects when ingested by humans. Another technique in horse medication is to crush the pill into powder and placing it directly on the horse’s tongue. Airborne particles that might be inhaled while preparing the powder may be harmful. But (phenylbutazone, equivalent to aspirin), in particular, causes aplastic anemia in humans.

The main reason being that it takes your keyword and compounds it into many different keywords and phrases that you probably wouldn’t even think of! Not only does it save you a huge amount of time compiling a keyword list it even scores them based on the level of competition and search frequency. The end result being, that you end up with a quality list of keywords perfect niche markets. As with anything in life quality costs! I also use Keyword Elite which again is a keyword software program that generates lists for you. On top of this it also has some rather funky features, my favorite being “spy on adwords competition”. Basically this software enables you to not only analyze PPC listings, it publishes your ads as well as analyzing your competition. You can find your best competitor in adwords watch their campaign, identify their successful keywords and copy them ensuring your success. Not a must! but an extremely useful tool.

The other form of ‘paid traffic’ is buying visitors to your site from any of the traffic providers on the internet. There are hundreds just Google the word ‘traffic’ and you’ll see what I mean. They offer both targeted and non targeted, geographic and non geographic. If you are desperate to loose money then go to a Casino instead at least you stand a chance of winning! Why on earth would a buyer sign up to somebody like this if they could look for themselves???

Of course there other paid forms of advertising for you to explore in order to gain traffic, but some will only be relevant to certain sites. So for this reason alone these will only be covered on a one to one basis with our customers. If you want to be really cheeky and give yourself a boost an easy way to enhance your chances of ranking well is to copy your competitor’s keywords. Just compile your list of keywords and then Google them for the top ranking sites. Visit each site and simply steel your competitor’s keywords from their page source. Make yourself a file and send us the list and we’ll load them in for you. All search engines, Google especially are only there to serve their customers not the website owners, which in business terms is fine. However, it’s now your business and we need to convince these engines that we are important to their search customers.

As with any new start business the biggest thing is gaining both visibility and credibility in your market place. After search engines website directories are probably one of the best sources for getting quality backlinks. By far the best and most authoritative is The Open Directory also known as DMOZ

DMOZ is by far the most authoritative directory and as a result also the hardest to get into. That being said it is still definitely worth a go though. You can follow this link to sign up and apply DMOZ

A lot of the directory sites have very good page rank, this page rank can be added to your site by submitting your business to the directories for inclusion. I am not going to lie to you, this is by far the most laborious job anyone could imagine! It’s very time consuming and exceptionally mind numbing.

There are 2 ways you can get around this boring but essential exercise! Firstly you can buy software such as Directory Submitter or to do this for you. Remember whenever you can save time automate do it! The age old adage of “time is money” does come into play and if spending $100 or so means that you aren’t tied to the computer for 5 hours and free to get on with more productive stuff it’s a no brainer!

Secondly you can pay somebody be else to do it for you. There are lots of submission services on the net. Always be sure to choose one that is reputable. Mass submission of several hundred a week will look unnatural to the search engines your ranking will definitely suffer! Time released is the best method. A company who I have personally used, and found to be very good and professional are Submit Elite Whether doing your submission manually or not, you need to ensure that you write good titles and excellent descriptions targeting your top keywords.

Social Bookmarking

I can hear you thinking “what the hell is social bookmarking?”, “does that mean I have got tell me mates down the pub?”. Well sort of yes! It doesn’t mean that you have got to save your friends to your favorites or bookmarks in your web browser! What social bookmarking actually involves is bookmarking your favorite sites on a public website and attaching keyword tags to them so others can share that valuable information.
